Love for God Above All
Our love for God is a response to His incredible love for us. The Bible teaches that we do not initiate love toward God; rather, He first loved us. As (1 John 4:19) says, “We love because he first loved us.” This love was demonstrated most clearly through Jesus Christ, who gave His life for our salvation:
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10).
Because of God’s love, we are called to love Him in return. Jesus said that the greatest commandment is:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37).
Loving God is not just about feelings; it is shown through obedience and service. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands.” (John 14:15). One way we express our love for God is by serving others, just as Jesus served:
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45).
Ultimately, our love for God transforms our lives, shaping our actions, attitudes, and relationships. It is a love that flows from His grace and leads us to love others as He has loved us.
